The 27 nakshatras divide the zodiac into lunar mansions, each with four padas (quarters). Your birth nakshatra—often called your birth star—is taken from the Moon’s position at birth and is used for naming traditions, compatibility and dasha timing. Add your birth date, time and city; we return the Moon’s nakshatra and ruling planet, and pada when the birth time is known. The Moon moves about 13°12′ per day while each nakshatra spans 13°20′, so the Moon often changes nakshatra during a calendar day; without a reliable birth time the nakshatra may differ and pada is not reliable.

What is a nakshatra?
A nakshatra is a 13°20′ segment of the sky along the ecliptic. The Moon spends roughly one day in each nakshatra. Your birth nakshatra is where the Moon sat when you were born.
What is pada?
Each nakshatra has four padas of 3°20′. Pada fine-tunes personality and is used in divisional charts and some compatibility methods.
How is nakshatra used in Jyotish?
It anchors Vimshottari dasha, describes mental patterns, and appears in marriage matching and muhurta. Many remedies and mantras are tied to the birth star.
Can I find nakshatra without birth time?
Without a known clock time we still show the best estimate from your birth date, but the Moon can change nakshatra during the day. Pada needs exact longitude—do not trust it when time is unknown. Confirm with a better time or rectification.
Is this the same as my horoscope sign?
